The Paramount Plus price hike is here: What it means for you

First came Max, then Peacock, and now Paramount Plus has increased its prices for summer 2024.

New subscribers will have to pay more to watch Paramount Plus with or without ads starting August 20. Ad-supported Paramount Plus Essential now costs $8 per month (was $6), and ad-free Paramount Plus with Showtime costs $13 per month (was $12).

Existing monthly Paramount Plus with Showtime subscribers will pay more starting on their next billing date on or after September 20. However, current monthly Essential subscribers (from before August 20) will not see a change in their $6 price, according to Paramount Plus. The streamer is not increasing the annual price of Essential and Paramount Plus with Showtime for new or existing subscribers. For those currently on the old Limited Commercial plan, the price will increase by $1 to $8 per month.

Annual price (new and existing subscribers) $60^ $120^

Paramount Plus last raised prices a little over a year ago, around the time it merged with Showtime. The streaming service’s Essential plan includes ads, and its tier with Showtime programming limits ads to “live TV and a few shows.” Paramount Plus with Showtime also offers downloads and your local live CBS station.

With the price hike, Paramount Plus’ monthly ad-supported plan costs the same as Peacock’s after its increase in July. While both were once the cheapest ad-supported plans among the major streaming services, they now cost the same as Disney Plus and Hulu’s entry-level plans, while Netflix with ads costs a dollar less at $7.
