Drake Maye ‘not 100 percent sure’ if Jacoby Brissett will be Patriots starter

Earlier on Wednesday, Patriots coach Jerod Mayo noted that the competition for the quarterback position was still ongoing – even though Jacoby Brissett was still working with the first team on offense.

Mayo also said that Maye is “100 percent” ready to run a huddle.

Drake Maye, selected with the No. 3 overall pick, was asked about the competition on Wednesday and praised Brissett’s handling of things, but also noted that he wants to do his best on the field.

“I think I’ll just take use my opportunities“Maye said, via ESPN’s Mike Reiss. “I think Jacoby did a great job. He’s a great player, a great teammate. He’s worked with the others the whole time. So I’m happy for him. I just try to take advantage of every opportunity — take advantage of the reps I get — and when I’m in it, I try to have a little fun.

Maye was then asked if he thought Brissett was New England’s starter.

“I am not 100 percent sure“Maye said, via Chad Graff of TheAthletic.com. “But Jacoby played great… and was a great teacher for me.”

Maye should get a lot more playing time on Sunday night when the Patriots visit the Commanders for their final preseason game.

So far in August, Maye has completed 8 of 14 passes for 66 yards and has run four times for 15 yards with a touchdown.
