KIRI Engine 3D scanner app version 3.9 introduces auto-rigging

KIRI Innovations has just released KIRI Engine 3.9, a major upgrade that expands the horizons of cloud-based 3D scanning with Featureless Object Scan 2.0 and Auto-Rigging, as well as bringing important quality of life improvements. This major update redefines what a 3D scanner app can do, offering versatility to solidify the most fundamental aspects while taking a step into the future of what this comprehensive tool can do.

First, the KIRI Engine app UI has been completely redesigned, dramatically improving accessibility and intuitiveness for users. Features are now neatly categorized in a simple way. While KIRI has always showcased the best scans individually on a dedicated Explore page, with the new update the Explore page UI has been condensed to showcase the community’s highlighted stunning scans and other outstanding projects, making accessing and interacting with these inspiring 3D models easier than ever.

Jack Wang, co-founder and CEO of KIRI, says: “KIRI Engine is always committed to providing high-quality 3D scanning solutions at affordable prices and with easy access, and the latest update fully embodies this mission statement. Photo limits have been increased for both plan options: from 70 to 100 for the free plan and from 200 to 300 for the Pro plan. In addition, free users of the app can now upload photos for the Photo Scan mode from their local library to be processed on both the mobile version and the web platform.”

“Now we come to the really exciting part,” Wang continues. “KIRI Engine now supports Auto-Rig Generation, made possible by AI. For a long time, 3D scanning was a rather static tool in 3D content creation, simply delivering 3D assets. While it has proven its worth, for many developers, the limited features of 3D scanning also meant limited usability in workflow pipelines. Auto-Rig Generation reinvents what can be extracted from a simple 3D scan and offers more versatility in 3D scan creation than ever before. Users can now export 3D scanned models with automatically generated skeletal rigs, allowing them to use these ‘digital replicas’ of real-world objects directly in living animations. Essentially, anything can now be brought to life and set in motion!”

As a proprietary scanning technology, Featureless Object Scan is one of KIRI Engine’s proudest, most significant and advanced features to date; the new 3.9 update brings even more features to this revolutionary scanning method. The newly improved Neural Surface Reconstruction (NSR) algorithm dramatically improves the overall quality of mesh outputs, significantly lowering the input threshold while increasing the detail of the output. The previous generation, despite its strong ability to overcome the limitations of traditional photogrammetry, still often struggled with highly reflective surfaces, especially transparent ones. Through continuous intensive training of the algorithm after its initial release, the updated Featureless Object Scan is now more powerful and reliable than ever.

KIRI Engine has also improved its existing algorithms such as PBR texture generation and quad-mesh retopology, enabling versatile output choices with a redesigned advanced export menu.

“This is by far the biggest update to the KIRI Engine,” Wang concluded, “bringing features and improvements never seen before in 3D scanning software.”
