Ohio State Buckeyes’ opponent in season opener officially names starting quarterback

The Ohio State Buckeyes are about to play their first game of the 2024 college football season.

On Saturday, August 31st, the Buckeyes will host the Akron Zips. Ohio State is widely expected to have a very dominant performance in this game.

Just 10 days before the game, Akron officially chose a starting quarterback.

According to a report by Pete Thamel of ESPNThe Zips have given the job to veteran transfer quarterback Ben Finley, who most recently played for the California Golden Bears and before that for NC State.

Finley has played four seasons of college football over the course of his career. He has yet to find a consistent role and hasn’t exactly performed well when he has played.

In four years, he threw 1,215 yards, seven touchdowns and seven interceptions.

We congratulate Finley on his job, but he faces a nightmarish first start against one of the best defenses in the country.

Looking ahead to the upcoming season, the Buckeyes are loaded with defensive talent. They should have a top-notch pass rush, a top-notch linebacker staff and a secondary capable of making big plays and forcing turnovers frequently. That’s not an ideal first start for Finley.

Still, the game still needs to be played. Ohio State needs to get serious about this starting Week 1. It will be interesting to see what the team looks like in just over a week.

Fans can’t wait to see the Buckeyes football game live again, and they’ll finally find out who will be playing quarterback in the season opener.
