Lowell Kerans, 91, of Wayne City

Lowell Kerans, 91, of Wayne City, Illinois, passed away at his home Tuesday morning, August 20, 2024.

Lowell was born on December 20, 1932, in Ashmore Township, Illinois, to Forrest and Agnes (Waters) Kerans. On November 13, 1958, he married Carolyn Carrico, who predeceased him.

Lowell was an avid horseman and was involved with the Wayne City Saddle Club for many years. He and his late wife Carolyn shared a love of dancing to country music; a hobby he maintained

even after her death. Lowell took pride in his community by serving on the Wayne City Board and participating in many Bean Day parades.

He owned his own business, Kerans Meter Testing, for many years and worked with REAs in Southern Illinois. He was also a proud veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy from November 1952 to October 1956.

Lowell is survived by 3 children: Pamela (Larry) Braddock of Wayne City; Michael (Jennifer) Kerans of McLeansboro; Bradley (Michele) Kerans of St. Peters, Missouri. He also leaves behind seven granddaughters and five great-grandchildren: Jessica (Kyle) Struckhoff and children, Mason & Henley of Webb City, Missouri; Sara (Steven) Fey and children, Hayden & Tucker of New London, Iowa; Presley (Caleb) Price of Shiloh, Illinois; Paxton (Kyle) Kunath and son, Rory of Golconda, Illinois; Samantha Kerans of St. Peters, Missouri; Amanda (Ben) Varghese of St. Peters, Missouri; Savannah Kerans of St. Peters, Missouri; one sister, Karen Kerans of Muskegon, Wisconsin; brother and sister-in-law, George & Shirley Wellbaum of Greenup, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Kerans of Arcola, Illinois; and a special friend, Deborah Murphy of Keenes, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Carolyn, his brother Jerry Kerans, his sister Glenda Grant, and his parents Forrest and Agnes Kerans.

Funeral services for Lowell will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the Young Funeral Home in Wayne City, IL. Pastor Steve Griswold will officiate. Viewing will be from 11:00 a.m. Saturday until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow the funeral service at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City. Graveside military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #141 of Mt. Vernon, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wayne City Ambulance Service, which will also be accepted at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City. Online condolences, memories and words of encouragement may be shared at www.youngfuneralhomellc.com.
