The 2024 U17 World Championships will be broadcast live on FloWrestling from August 19-25. The men’s freestyle competition will take place from August 23-25 at the Princess Sumaya Bint al-Hasan in Amman, Jordan.

What you need to know: The youngest and smallest member of the men’s U17 freestyle world team, Sammy Sanchez hasn’t even started high school yet. But that doesn’t mean expectations won’t be high. You have to go back to 2018 to find the last time the U.S. didn’t bring home a medal in the 45kg class, and three of the four medals were gold (2022 – Dom Munaretto, 2021 – Bo Bassett, 2019 – Marc Anthony McGowan).

48 kg: Henry Aslikyan
Hometown: Panorama City, California

What you need to know: Although Henry Aslikyan was named to the U17 Greco World Team last year and the U15 Pan Am Team in both styles the year before, this is his first Freestyle World Team at this age level. This year he became the California State Champion for Birmingham in the 106 lbs class.

Hometown: St. Charles, Illinois

What you need to know: Dom Muinaretto, the most internationally recognized member of the roster, will be looking to capture his second U17 freestyle world title after taking gold in the 45kg class in 2022. He is currently ranked No. 1 in the country in the 113lbs class and has also made the Greco world team.

55 kg: Keanu Dillard

What you need to know: Keanu Dillard is currently ranked 23rd on the Big Board’s 2026 list, is already a two-time Pennsylvania state champion and one of the most promising young lightweight boxers in the country.

60 kg: Jordyn Raney
Hometown: Sturgis, Kentucky

What you need to know: One of three wrestlers to make the U17 World Freestyle and Greco teams, Jordyn Raney hails from the non-traditional wrestling region of Western Kentucky. His hometown has a population of just 1,898. But that didn’t stop Jordyn and his twin brother Jayden from becoming two of the most promising young talents of the class of 2026 (Jordyn No. 4 and Jayden No. 7). Jayden made the World Greco team in the 55 kg division, but moved up to the freestyle division, losing to Jordyn in the finals.

65 kg: Nate Askew
Hometown: Fayetteville, North Carolina

What you need to know: Nate Askew is a North Carolina native currently attending Baylor High School in Tennessee, but will return to his home state for college next year as a Tar Heel. This will be the high school senior’s first time representing the United States overseas.

What you need to know: Melvin Miller is part of the Bishop McCourt team that includes 2021 U17 World Champion Bo Bassett, and he’s ready to make a good run in Jordan. After making the U17 World team, he made a great run, going undefeated at both the 16U Duals and Fargo, which catapulted him to No. 2 in the country in the 157-pound class. He’s one of the brightest young stars in the country.

What you need to know: Emmitt Sherlock is one of three members of the freestyle team who are also on the Greco team. He is a versatile swimmer. Sherlock is a senior at Gilman High School in Maryland this year and will attend the University of Virginia next year.

What you need to know: (Elijah Diakomihalis) is the younger (but bigger) brother of former and current Cornell wrestlers Yianni and Greg Diakomihalis. He will follow in his brother’s footsteps and also attend Cornell. Although he finished second to Dreshaun Ross, Ross had to withdraw from the team due to injury, giving Diakomihalis the spot.

What you need to know: The son of two-time NCAA champion, Dan Hodge Trophy Award winner and Olympic gold medalist Steve Mocco, Michael Mocco had his breakthrough at a tournament in Fargo in 2023, where he dominated the competition en route to a freestyle and Greco title. He has great movement potential, including the patented Mocco footsweep.
