Ohio teenager dies after being electrocuted while entering a mobile home: police

TOLEDO, Ohio (WKRC) – Police say an Ohio teenager has died after being electrocuted.

According to WTVG, Toledo police confirmed that 17-year-old Olivia Bright was killed as she entered a trailer on her family’s property.

Authorities arrived at the scene shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday and found Bright with burns on his right hand and in cardiac arrest, the source said.

“I’m just saying appreciate your children while they’re here,” Bright’s mother, Kimberly Bright, told WTVG. “It’s hard. Five and a half years ago, I buried my son Brandon. He was 11 years old and died of glioblastoma. Now I have to go and arrange everything for my daughter Olivia.”

Speaking to WTVG, officials said the 17-year-old appeared to have been electrocuted and told the station that the investigation was ongoing.

According to the station, the Toledo police report included the following details:

  • The camper had no electricity
  • The door of the motorhome was closed and not charred
  • Bright was found barefoot
  • The ground was wet from the rain

Bright’s sister, Kelly Perry, started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for Bright’s funeral and cremation. On the GoFundMe page, Kelly said her sister died of “electrical shock/heart failure.”

“This is extremely hard on our family as we lost her brother to brain cancer in 2019 at the age of 11. Our family would also appreciate it if we could share this with them. Thank you and God bless,” Kelly wrote.

Bright’s family told WTVG that a candlelight vigil was held in Toledo yesterday.

In an update, WTOL11 reported that faulty wiring on a vacant lot outside her property was likely responsible for Bright’s electrocution.

“Be there for your kids because they could be here today and gone tomorrow, like mine, and she was only 17,” Kimberly Bright told the outlet.
