AI apps rise on Andreessen Horowitz’s list

Are you looking for a new AI app to try out or curious about which ones are promising?

The good news is that Andreessen Horowitz just released the third edition of the Top 100 Gen AI Consumer Apps, which summarizes the most widely used apps in the space. This is a great way to find some lesser-known apps that are gaining traction—and see how the big players in the space compare to each other.

Every six months, the venture capital firm ranks the top 50 AI web products by number of unique monthly visits and the top 50 AI mobile applications by number of monthly active users.

Unsurprisingly, OpenAI’s ChatGPT remains king, topping both lists for the third time.

However, other AI chatbots are toughening up the competition. Perplexity and Claude both made it into the top 5 web products, jumping from 7th and 10th place to 3rd and 4th place respectively.

Apps like Microsoft Edge and Photomath remained in second and third place, respectively, and Character.AI rose from third place, replacing Gemini in second place among web products.

While the giants of AI are still fighting their battle, some new, up-and-coming stars are also on the rise – and stimulating people’s creativity.

Of the 12 new additions to the list, 58% are creative tools that focus on content creation or editing images, videos, music, voice and more, according to the study. These include Luma (14th), which can create realistic 3D images; Viggle (21st), an AI-powered animation tool that can move any character via text prompts; and AI art generator SeaArt (29th).

AI is also just peaking in the music industry. Music generator app Suno, which lets you easily create an AI song based on a text prompt, made the biggest jump in Creative Tools, rising from 36th to 5th in Web Products. Newcomer Udio, another generative model that produces songs based on text prompts, came in 33rd.

Image and video content editing was also a big hit for mobile rankings, with outstanding results from tools like Meitu (9th), SNOW (30th) and Adobe Express (35th).

Users are not only creative but also interested in dating. AI-powered dating app RIZZ made it to the mobile list for the first time, coming in at 49th place. Aesthetics apps like LooksMax AI and Umax were also new additions, coming in at 43rd and 44th place, respectively.

The full list can be found on the Andreessen Horowitz website.
