Determined riders can succeed at the Prairie Rose Training Center

BISMARCK, ND (KFYR) – Prairie Rose Training Center has been teaching horse lovers and riders since the early 1980’s. They take their roles as teachers, trainers and mentors seriously.

“Training is very important to us. We have to be able to train well and properly for the horses and the people,” says Carla Stanley, co-owner of Prairie Rose, who runs the training center and farm with her husband.

Her commitment to a life surrounded by horses has paid off: she has a daughter, Mimi, who is an accomplished rider and is now the head trainer at Prairie Rose.

“My absolute favorite part and sometimes the most frustrating part, but I think often times we get the most joy from things that we may have to work a little bit for. And that definitely applies to training horses and riders,” said Mimi Stanley.

Mimi teaches 13-year-old Mabel Williams, who has been riding for four years and whose love of horses borders on obsession. Williams believes it starts with the bond between the rider and, in her case, her horse, Blink.

“Especially with these horses, you have to have a good connection with them to be able to ride them successfully,” said Williams.

Williams is one-sided and concentrates entirely on two equestrian disciplines: show jumping and dressage.

“Some people call it horse ballet, but it’s the rider who guides the horse with very subtle commands to make it move as gracefully as possible,” Williams said.

Under the guidance of a successful trainer and a caring owner at Prairie Rose, Williams is primed for future success in the arena.

Carla Stanley said she and her staff are open to teaching and training anyone who is interested in horses and equestrian sports.
