Earlier this week, gameplay of Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 was finally revealed at Gamescom, and as expected, it was exceptionally well-received. The popular strategy games have become a household name, especially among PC gamers, and even the casual gamers have caught a lot of interest in this series. However, if the teaser for Civ 7 only whetted your appetite, there is currently a sale on most of the modern installments in the series.
It is particularly worth mentioning that Civ 6 is currently in particularly high demand. You can download the basic version of Civilization 6 for (quite reasonable) 6 US dollars. I keep hearing from people that these games are such simple time-wasters and no one I know who plays Civ spends anywhere near a “normal” number of hours playing. That means that for just six bucks, you’re probably getting hundreds of hours of entertainment as you try to build your own civilization with any number of Civ 6’s available leaders.
In case you’re new here, the Civilization series consists of strategy games that let you build your own nations and, eventually, empires. You can customize the details of these societies, including their values, religions, and technologies, and you can pursue different paths to advance your society, hence the name for Civ’s subgenre 4X, which stands for “Explore,” “Expand,” “Exploit,” and “Exterminate.” You can clash with other civilizations and famous world leaders (including a hilarious, nuclear-arms-loving Gandhi), and win these encounters and the game in a variety of ways, including war or diplomacy.
Civ 6 is the latest entry, although it was released nearly ten years ago but has been widely supported since then. In the intervening years, it has received at least two major expansions and a number of smaller expansions that have added new leaders, civilizations, and mechanics (like damn climate change) to the game through early 2023. If you’re at all interested in getting more out of the game, You can purchase the extensions for about $5 each.or you can purchase one of two packages containing the DLC.
The first package, titled Sid Meier’s Civilization 6 Platinum Edition, includes the two main expansions and about half of the smaller DLCs and is currently available on Steam for about $12. Alternatively, if you feel like you want to get fully into Civ 6 before the upcoming sequel next year, you can grab the Anthology Pack, which includes everything for just $25. In total, you get the base game and 18 DLCs with about a decade’s worth of content. I don’t think you can get more out of the CIv series than playing all the previous games.
Although you should be fine with this game, some of the other modern games in the series are also on offer. Civ 5 is currently quite cheap, costing only around $5.and if you want to go back even further, Civ 4 costs $3.. But don’t worry, you don’t have to play Civ 1-6 to understand Civ 7. Common misconceptions regarding these parts.
As someone who is curious about the best PC strategy games and has been diving into PC gaming in general lately, it seems blasphemous not to have a single Civ game on my hard drive. Maybe today is the day I change that and start looking forward to the next game that I’ll probably be hearing about for ten years after it’s released. We might as well all jump on the bandwagon right now, and who wouldn’t with these insanely low prices.
