Bob Huggins donates 0,000 to Mon Health Cancer Center

MORGANTOWN, W.Va (WDTV) – Former WVU basketball coach Bob Huggins donated $380,000 to Mon Health Cancer Center Thursday morning to support cancer treatment.

Huggins announced the donation earlier this year at the 2024 Fish Fry. The money came from the Norma Mae Huggins Cancer Endowment Fund, which Huggins established in his mother’s name to support cancer treatment and research throughout West Virginia.

Mon Health Cancer Center is part of the Vandalia Health System and VHS treats over 50,000 cancer patients each year.

Huggins also donated $100,000 in July to support cancer treatment at CAMC Beckley.

“These funds come from thousands of donors who traveled from far and wide to participate in one of our state’s most popular community events to raise awareness and funds for cancer care delivery, access and outcomes,” said David Goldberg, president and CEO of Mon Health System and Davis Health System – Vandalia Health North and executive vice president of Vandalia Health. “Cancer affects so many people, even my own family, so it is so important to partner with Coach Huggins, his family and friends to improve outcomes, access and quality of care. We can’t do it alone and this community support makes all the difference. We are grateful for this relationship, the friendship of the family and donors and this very generous gift.”
