Soil testing event to showcase the revitalized garden at the Maher Center

On August 10, the Maher Garden Center in Middletown will host a soil survey, giving the public the opportunity to witness the transformation of the Founder’s Garden into a blooming paradise for pollinators.

From 10 a.m. to noon, visitors can have their soil tested and explore the revitalized garden area, which has undergone a remarkable metamorphosis thanks to the efforts of URI Master Gardeners, clients, volunteers and Maher Center staff.

The event not only showcases the garden’s transformation, but also highlights the Maher Center’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement.

Master Gardeners have played a critical role in the restoration, contributing their expertise to create a sustainable and ecologically beneficial space.

Visitors to the August 10 event will have the opportunity to learn more about the different plant species selected to attract pollinators and the sustainable gardening practices implemented there.

The Maher Center, known for its work supporting people with developmental disabilities, has integrated its clients into the garden restoration project, giving them valuable gardening experience and a sense of community involvement.

In addition to presenting the Founder’s Garden, the event will also provide information about other volunteer opportunities at the Maher Center.

Attendees can learn about ongoing projects on the iconic 40 steps of Newport’s Cliff Walk and the Newport Flower Show, both events offering unique opportunities for community members to get involved and make a difference.

For those unable to attend the August 10 event, the Maher Center encourages you to inquire about future opportunities to visit the garden or get involved in the various projects.
