WAYNE, Mich. – Building on the momentum of support for the United Auto Workers last week, Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz held a rally outside UAW Local 900 in Wayne on Thursday afternoon.

“When you know what you stand for, you know what you want to fight for,” Harris said. “We know what we stand for, and we stand for the people. We stand for the dignity of work. We stand for justice; we stand for equality. So we would fight for all of that.”

Harris emphasized the influence of unions in the United States.

“Even if you’re not a union member, you should thank the unions for the five-day work week,” Harris said. “You should thank the unions for that eight-hour workday. You should thank the unions for that holiday. So I’m here to say thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you to the sisters and brothers of the UAW.”

Walz, who was announced as Harris’ running mate on Tuesday (August 6), enjoys strong support among unions.

In response to Harris and Walz’s campaign in Michigan, the Republican National Committee said: “The people of Michigan are fed up with dangerously liberal Democrats like Harris and Walz.”
