Benny The Butcher and Drake are elite in the new song “Buffalo Freestyle”

Drake has been an admirer of the Griselda wave for years. He mentioned her in his 2019 interview with Rap Radar. He also teamed up with acclaimed Griselda producer Conductor Williams for “8AM In Charlotte,” one of his best songs in years. Fans were dying to know what a real collaboration between Drake and Griselda would sound like. “Buffalo Freestyle” did the trick. The track has been circulating on social media for a few days, but the streaming release of the song has made it official. It turns out Drake and Benny the Butcher are an elite couple.

The production is as dusty and soulful as you would hope for a Benny the Butcher performance. There is a vocal sample and a tempo that screams East Coast. Drake launches into a long drawn out verse that reeks of the energy he puts into the Scary Hours 3 EP. He sounds hungry, and given the outcome of the Dot Battle, he has reason to be. It’s good territory for Drake, and he proves he can still keep up with the best out there, bar for bar. The 6 God spent the summer digging into dancehall and pop tracks, so it’s a nice reminder. That being said, Benny the Butcher dominates the track. He’s on his home turf, proving that few rappers can keep up when it comes to hard-hitting bars. “Buffalo Freestyle” has been a long time coming, and it was worth the wait.

Benny The Butcher and Drake conjure up new single

Bitch, I do what I want, you n**gas do what you can
N**gas talk crazy about me, when they see me they’re fans
It’s stupid how you do that, I’ll never understand it
I get fly with it, AP diamonds with it
