Massachusetts politicians take center stage on the fourth day of the Democratic National Convention

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) — Our team coverage of the Democratic National Convention now turns to what local delegates are taking away from the four-day conference.

It was a big night for Democrats in Chicago when Kamala Harris became the first black woman and first person of South Asian descent to accept the presidential nomination of a major party. The historic moment caused great excitement among many, including delegates from Western Massachusetts.

“There is definitely joy here, there is great excitement and certainly a lot of hope,” said delegate Bruce Samual Adams.

The Democratic Party Convention ended on Thursday evening in Chicago.

The last four nights were filled with speeches, endorsements and appearances from some of the biggest names in politics and Hollywood.

“There were some great speakers, a lot of motivation, there is definitely a lot of excitement in the air here in Chicago,” Adams claimed.

On Thursday, all eyes were on the vice president as she accepted her party’s nomination as presidential candidate.

The final night of the convention turned out to be a big night for the Bay State, as the evening’s speakers included Senator Elizabeth Warren and Governor Maura Healey.

“She fundamentally cares about the situation, and she will bring down the giant corporations that are squeezing American families,” Warren said.

“Having Kamala Harris on stage is a confirmation for the state of Massachusetts that we are doing the right thing and moving in the right direction,” said Easthampton Mayor Nicole LaChapelle.

Healey was among the first Democratic governors to suggest that President Joe Biden forgo his re-election and instead elect his running mate.

“I know she will fight with the same passion and determination as President of the United States,” said Governor Healey.

The delegates leave the congress with renewed optimism and excitement for the final days of the election.

“We’re being motivated here, we’re being motivated and asked to ask our friends to look at their resumes,” said Bruce Samuel Adams. “We’re going to tell everybody: It’s going to be President Harris and it’s going to be a great outcome for her.”

As you heard from Governor Healey, many of the speeches tonight raised the idea that this is a race between a convicted felon and a former federal prosecutor.
