Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says he’s in no ‘rush’ to complete CeeDee Lamb deal; WR responds

It’s the latest development in a stalemate that has raged throughout the offseason for Lamb and the team that selected him in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

The 25-year-old did not participate in voluntary workouts or mandatory minicamp and did not show up to training camp, which means he will be fined daily. Lamb is expected to play on the five-year option of his rookie contract, meaning he could be fined $40,000 per day for each missed practice. The option is worth $17.9 million in 2024.

However, Lamb is coming off his third consecutive Pro Bowl season and was also named to the All-Pro team for the first time. In his season, he had 135 receptions, which gave him an NFL-leading 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns – both career highs.

And so, in an offseason where wide receivers are making huge salaries, Lamb wants to have his day.

Lamb isn’t the only high-profile Cowboy slated to get a raise. He’s one of three Dallas superstars seeking contract extensions, as quarterback Dak Prescott is also entering the final year of his current contract and linebacker Micah Parsons certainly deserves a new, massive deal.

There’s no telling how much of Jones’ comments are mere self-congratulation or not, but it seems Lamb’s resistance isn’t going to end anytime soon.
