There has been a lot of talk about a potential battle for the New England Patriots’ starting quarterback. Jacoby Brissett is the veteran expected to start, while Drake Maye is the rookie trying to make a name for himself.
Patriots coach Jerod Mayo is confident that Maye is ready to lead the offense. The rookie is taking it all in stride, as the competition for the quarterback position is still open and there is only one preseason game left.
“You know, I think I’m just going to take my opportunities,” Maye said after practice Wednesday. “Jacoby’s done a great job. Great player, great teammate. He takes reps with the guys all the time. I’m happy for him. I just try to take advantage of the reps that I get and when I’m in it, I try to have a little fun.”
When asked if Sunday night could be a last-ditch effort in the battle for the starting quarterback position, Drake Maye said he’s focused on taking advantage of every opportunity he gets, while acknowledging that Jacoby Brissett has been doing all of his drills with the 1s and has been a great teammate for him. pic.twitter.com/vNE18KeJmn

The final preseason game on Sunday against the Washington Commanders could provide insight into how the quarterback situation will play out for New England, and a good performance from Maye could give the coaching staff an even more difficult decision.
