Representative Joe Lovvorn appointed to the board of the US Space and Rocket Center

Auburn Republican Rep. Joe Lovvorn was appointed by Governor Kay Ivey to the 18-member board of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center and attended his first meeting of the board in Huntsville on Wednesday.

The committee, officially called the Alabama Space Science Exhibit Commission under state law, oversees the operations of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center Museum and its partner facilities – Space Camp, Aviation Challenge, U.S. Cyber Camp and Robotics Camp.

“Alabama built the rockets that put men on the moon and continues to play a vital role in the space program today. I look forward to sharing that history with the 650,000 visitors who tour the rocket center each year,” Lovvorn said. “Equally important is our work to inspire the next generation of engineers, astronauts, inventors and explorers through Space Camp and all of the programs and experiences associated with it.”

Lovvorn, a Space Camp alumnus, is currently serving his third term in the Alabama House of Representatives and chairs the body’s influential Rules Committee, which determines the bills, resolutions and measures that are considered in the House each session day. He previously served as chairman of the House Technology and Research Committee.

A retired Battalion Chief of the Auburn Fire Department, he currently operates the Two Men and a Truck moving company franchise in Auburn and Montgomery.

Lovvorn holds a bachelor’s degree in agriculture and a master’s degree in business administration from Auburn University.

He and his wife, Jenifer, attend the Auburn campus of the Church of the Highlands and are the parents of two sons.
