Ohio State Highway Patrol investigates crash with serious injuries on US 30 in Van Wert County – Mercer County Outlook

Van Wert (23.8.24) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol Van Wert Post is investigating a two-vehicle crash with serious injuries that occurred early this morning on U.S. 30 at Mendon Road in Van Wert County.

At approximately 3:06 a.m., a Ford Explorer patrol car driven by a Van Wert police officer was responding to an incident and traveling north on Mendon Road on US Route 30. As the Ford Explorer crossed the westbound lanes of US 30, it was struck by a westbound 2011 Chevrolet Express van driven by a single male occupant. After the collision, the vehicles continued to leave the roadway.

The driver of the Ford Explorer was taken to Ohio Health-Van Wert with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet Express van was flown from the scene to Parkview Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

The Van Wert Post was assisted on scene by the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office, Van Wert Fire Department, Samaritan Medical Transport, Hague’s Towing & Repair and Jim Schmidt Towing.

The westbound lanes of US 30 were temporarily closed but have since reopened.

The traffic accident remains under investigation.
