Diablo 4 is free to play on Steam this weekend, and Blizzard is giving you more and more reasons to convince you to dive in

It’s pretty easy to get excited about Diablo 4 right now. The game is currently in its best shape ever, following the major loot and item overhaul in Season 4 and the new endgame activities and quality of life improvements introduced with Season 5.

We’ve got another big shake-up on the horizon in the form of Season 6, which kicks off at the same time as the release of the game’s first expansion, Vessel of Hatred. So it makes sense that Blizzard would want to get new players into the game now, and the developer has planned this free weekend particularly well.

Diablo 4 is currently free to play on Steam until Tuesday, August 27th. The free trial also comes with a huge 40% discount on the standard version of the game. Aside from all the gameplay, system, and mechanic changes Diablo 4 has undergone in recent months, the timing of this trial is particularly good for another reason.

The trial runs alongside the Mother’s Blessing event, which increases XP yield rate by 35% and gold drop rate by 50%. The event was initially buggy, but Blizzard later fixed it so you can jump in without fear of the bonuses not counting.

For even more loot, Blizzard has also decided to bring back March of the Goblins, another in-game event that everyone loves. Unfortunately, this one doesn’t start until after the free weekend and Mother’s Blessing are over.

March of the Goblins, as the name suggests, increases the number of Treasure Goblins in the game and increases the chances of players encountering them. Don’t be surprised if you see two or three of them at once. You’ll also come across more Greed Shrines and you’ll even spot many of the bastards after defeating the world boss Avarice the Gold-Cursed.

March of the Goblins begins on August 27th and will be online until September 3rd – that’s a whole week of goblin encounters.
