According to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, total U.S. household debt increased by $109 billion in the second quarter of 2024, reaching $17.80 trillion. And what’s more? Credit card balances increased by a whopping $27 billion, reaching a total of $1.14 trillion.
A big driver behind ballooning credit card debt: inflation – the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that consumer prices rose 3% between June 2023 and June 2024 alone. The reality is that the cost of living is rising and more and more people are turning to credit cards to make ends meet.
