The Overcoming Believers Church and the Change Center are hosting a citywide leadership conference on Saturday

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – On Saturday, the Change Center and Overcoming Believers Church are preparing to host a citywide leadership conference.

From 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., six speakers will be on the podium at the Change Center with the goal of building up a young generation.

“We want anyone who believes they have a leader in them and wants to serve their community. I’m really excited that there are going to be really young leaders there and I’m really excited about what their future holds for them,” said Daryl Arnold, senior pastor of the OBC.

Arnold cited himself as an example to Knoxville’s aging politicians and said it was time to pass the torch.

“When I wake up in the morning and look in the mirror, I started out with black hair and 100 pounds lighter, now I have platinum blonde hair and weigh 100 pounds more,” Arnold joked. “And we have to think now about how we can develop the next generation of leaders so they can carry on the legacy that we started – a legacy that we believe is great for Knoxville, Tennessee.”

Former Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam, Hallerin Hilton Hill, Pastor Andrew Osakue, Lady Carmeisha Arnold, Joel Smith and Phyllis Nichols all wanted to speak.

While Saturday’s event was the first, with more than 200 people expected to attend, Arnold hoped it could be the start of a longer-term project.

“I want to show the city that we can be better off after this than we were at the beginning. I am thrilled to leave a legacy,” said Arnold.

As of Friday afternoon, fewer than 50 registration spots remained. Arnold said anyone who still wants to participate can call the OBC office at (865) 633-9050.
