Get ready for sultry summer weather this weekend

HASTINGS, Nebraska (KSNB) – Hope you enjoyed today as it is the last day of “cooler” temperatures this month as some hot temperatures move into the region this weekend. Scattered severe weather is possible later tonight in the westernmost parts of the region. These showers and isolated thunderstorms will struggle to hold together as they move east, so mostly scattered activity is expected. They will be much weaker as they move into the middle of the region before sunrise. There is a slight chance of scattered showers or thunderstorms here in the Tri-Cities. Lows will be between 65 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

Get ready for hot temperatures this weekend as a high pressure system builds up across the southern half of our country and sweeps the region. Not only are temperatures rising, but so is humidity, guaranteeing muggy temperatures not only on Saturday but also into Monday. Highs on Saturday will rise to 30 to 35 degrees, with afternoon heat index readings around 38 to 41 degrees. Sunday will be the hottest day, with highs in the 35 to 35 degrees. Heat index readings will rise to around 38 to 43 degrees. There is a slight chance of thunderstorms Saturday night in the western and northwestern parts of the region, but most of the region is expected to remain dry. Sunday night will have a slightly higher chance as a weak cold front approaches from the northwest.

Monday will be a little cooler, but still quite hot in most areas. Highs on Monday will range from above 30 degrees in the northwest to nearly 38 degrees in the southeast. Tuesday will be a little cooler, with highs in the 30s to 35s. Wednesday will see a slight rise in temperatures ahead of a cold front that will bring a good chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday night into Thursday. Highs on Wednesday will range from above 30 degrees to 35 to 35 degrees. Ahead of that, there will still be a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly at night or in the early morning.

A larger push of cooler air will come from behind the cold front mentioned above. This will bring cooler weather for next weekend.
