Part of West 29th Street in Ohio City closed to pedestrians

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – The City of Cleveland has announced the temporary two-week closure of West 29th Street to increase space for pedestrians and the public.

The closure between Clinton and Church Avenue will last from August 24 to September 8. The city of Cleveland wants to make the neighborhoods more pleasant and accessible for pedestrians.

During the closure, community volunteers and small businesses are hosting several free events.

“The goal is to make West 29th Street a people’s street – a street that is open to the public and has no car traffic,” said Joyce P. Huang, director of the city’s Planning Commission. “Already, residents and small businesses are organizing family days and community gatherings. This temporary, two-week Open Street will allow people to test the space and learn about what the permanent use of the space should look and feel like.”

The planned programming follows a public participation meeting in April in which dozens of residents, business owners and other community members participated in the design and planning phase of this project, according to a city press release.
