In the five-round main event, middleweight Jared Cannonier (No. 5) will face 12th-seeded Caio Borralho. Cannonier, a former middleweight title contender, is looking to bounce back from his TKO loss to Nassourdine Imavov This happened in June at UFC on ESPN 57. The middleweight veteran, who once defeated former champion Sean Strickland, now finds himself at a crossroads.
Opposite him in the Octagon is Caio Borralho, a Brazilian fighter who has been on a roll in the middleweight division recently. “The Natural” is currently undefeated in the UFC and has just scored a spectacular victory against Paul Craig at UFC 301. How did the fight end? With a brutal second-round KO by “The Natural” in his home country. Borralho is now within striking distance of the top 10.
So what does this fight mean for the middleweight division? A win over a seasoned veteran like Cannonier would move Borralho up the ranks and cement his status as a serious contender in the division. But the action isn’t over yet!
Co-main event and other fights to light up the UFC Apex
In the co-main event of UFC Vegas 96, top-ranked strawweights Angela Hill And Tabatha Ricci Enter the cage for a fight that could redefine the pecking order in the 115-pound division. Hill has won two fights in a row and is on the verge of making history as only the second woman in UFC history to reach 25 appearances in the Octagon.
Her opponent, Tabatha Ricci, seems to be maintaining the momentum of her last appearance, when she won a split decision against Tecia Pennington at UFC on ESPN 56. The Brazilian grappling expert wants to continue her rise and break into the top 10 with a victory over the veteran “Overkill”.
