The Seasons Center is hosting free training for caregivers in Dordt next month

Spencer, Iowa – The Seasons Center for Behavioral Health is hosting a free training for caregivers in Sioux Center next month.

According to Seasons Center officials, the training, titled “Fostering Resilience with Trista Miller; Strategies for Professionals and Kinship Families,” will take place on Friday, September 20, 2024, at the Dordt Ag Stewardship Center in Sioux Center.

Trista Miller, founder of a consulting firm, is a dedicated professional with over twenty years of experience supporting nonprofit organizations that focus on children and families. Staff at Season’s Center tell us that as a child, Miller experienced foster and kinship placements 12 times in six years. They say she has a great understanding of the challenges children face in such situations.

Season’s Center staff say, “As a proud mother of three, Miller’s personal experiences as a kinship caregiver shape her passion for fostering healthy, supportive relationships among children, families, caregivers and professionals. Her innovative programs reflect her commitment to building a better future for all.”

There will be two workshops – “Trauma-Informed Care for Professionals” and “Connecting with Relatives.” Anyone interested is invited to register for either or both workshops. CEUs will be offered in nursing, substance abuse (SA/SUD), foster care/adoptive, and social work.

Trauma-Informed Care for Professionals will be held in the mornings from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. In this workshop, Trista will talk about how professionals in the workplace, whether in child protection, law enforcement, or even hospitality, can experience different forms of trauma when dealing with coworkers, customers/clients, or even through their own life experiences. She will talk about the different ways trauma can impact professionals in the workplace and strategies for coping. To register for this training, click here.

Connecting with Kin will take place in the afternoon from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. In this workshop, Trista will discuss how kinship care may be the best option for children, but it can be extremely challenging in a different way than traditional care. She will discuss the unique dynamics of kinship families and talk about the potential trauma of kinship care for children, caregivers, parents and the family as a whole. The training will explore how to effectively support kinship families and encourage healing from within. Participants will leave the workshop encouraged and empowered to support the kinship families in their lives.
