Royals soar and beat Fort Wayne Carroll

The REPORTER

A dominant second quarter helped Hamilton Southeastern to a season-opening win at Fort Wayne Carroll on Friday.

The Royals beat the Chargers 45-21. Both teams scored a touchdown in the first quarter, with AZ Wallace putting Southeastern on the scoreboard with a one-yard run into the end zone.

Wallace picked up the pace in the second quarter, scoring three touchdowns, all from close range. Wallace scored the first touchdown just four seconds into the quarter, then Kian Kelly of the Royals recovered a fumble on the kickoff return. A few seconds later, Wallace was back in the end zone and scored another one-yard touchdown.

Wallace completed a three-yard touchdown pass later in the quarter to give HSE a 28-7 lead, and that would be the score at halftime. In the third quarter, Chandler Weston completed a five-yard touchdown pass to Kendrick Pennybaker to give the Royals a 35-14 lead. Hugo Belmonte kicked a 28-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, and Carter Reed slotted the ball home from the one late in the quarter.

Wallace rushed for 112 yards on 25 attempts, while Weston completed 17 of 24 throws for 129 yards. Hugo Belmonte converted all six of his extra point attempts.
