Repair work begins on sections of the Ghost Town Trail damaged by the storm

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) – Excavation work began Thursday to repair some of the significant damage Hurricane Debby caused to Ghost Town Trail following the storm in early August.

Cliff Kitner, executive director of the Cambria County Conservation & Recreation Authority, told the Tribune-Democrat that the destruction is estimated to affect about 7,500 feet of trail and the total cost would be $386,300.

He added that the situation has left him and his staff in a bind as they must now begin the necessary repairs to make the trail passable again and try to raise money for a full rehabilitation.

Work on Thursday focused on two sinkholes caused by flooding between Twin Rocks and Nanty Glo, as well as assessing another area between Twin Rocks and Vintondale.

“We’re trying to get the things done that absolutely need to be done,” Kitner said.
