Nick Saban, head coach and former Ohio State DB coach under Earl Bruce who won the NCAA football championship 7 times, defended Ryan Day on The Pat McAfee Show on Friday. At minute 20:00 (interview linked: https://youtu.be/GAAVUx1SY_k?si=vM-Pb3tZcYmT7DKn), McAfee and his team asked Saban what pressure Day must be under to have such a talented roster, adding that if Day lost a game, the “Ohio Fucks” would run him out of town.

Saban, who has retired in style, described being familiar with the pressures Day faces, citing examples of injuries that could roil the roster beyond the coach’s control and praising Day for assembling such a talented team that created that pressure. Saban said, “Personally, I think Ryan Day is a really good coach; I think he’s going to do a really good job with his roster.” He continued, “If he has the best roster, who is the one that got the roster there?”

Saban also had a message for us: “The fans should recognize that they have one of the best teams in the country, and they should do their part to be positive and cheer the guys on in a positive way to generate a lot of positive energy for the players who are doing their best.”

As the 2024 season begins, I will internalize the wisdom imparted by Nick Saban and do my best to cheer for this talented team and the head coach who got us here, win or lose. Not everything will be perfect, we won’t win every game by 50 points, but damn, I know these guys are going to play their asses off and the coaches are going to work their asses off. Whatever happens, we should get behind these men. Enjoy the 2024 season, everyone! It could be one for the ages! Go Bucks!
