SCVNews.com | SR-126 lane closures announced

The California Department of Transportation announces repair work on State Route 126, a quarter mile east of Pena Ranch Road, to clear the shoulder and roadway of landslides and debris, clear and clean drainage systems, repair damaged slopes and perform erosion control.

A severe storm has caused debris and loose material to be washed across Hopper Creek. The bridge on VEN 126 is virtually at full capacity at 26:48.

Monday, August 12th to Friday, August 16th – Closures are as follows and are subject to change:

Monday, August 12

– SR-126 westbound, shoulder lane closed from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Tuesday, August 13

– SR-126 westbound, shoulder lane closed from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Wednesday, August 14

– SR-126 westbound, shoulder lane closed from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Thursday, August 15

– SR-126 westbound, shoulder lane closed from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Friday, August 16

– SR-126 westbound, shoulder lane closed from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

D7 Maintenance has cleared sediment and debris from the roadway and pushed it onto the shoulder. However, the task now is to remove sediment from the shoulder and all ditches, repair the concrete ditches, and clear the Hopper Creek and Todd Barranca Creek bridges to prevent flooding of the roadway during future storms. The situation has now exceeded the capacity of D7 Maintenance crews.

This project will remove newly accumulated debris along the banks and under bridges within Caltrans-designated rights-of-way created by the storms in February, March and April 2024.

These works must be completed as quickly as possible to prevent long-term closure or disruption of this important route and to maintain unrestricted access for residents, emergency services and commercial traffic. Immediate action is required to prevent or mitigate loss or disruption to life, property or essential services.

Residents and businesses near the state road are advised that minimal noise from construction activities can be expected.

Construction is scheduled for July 2024 to February 2027. Baltazar Construction, Inc. of West Covina, California, is the contractor for this estimated $1.570 million debris removal and repair project.
