Ryan Day talks about intense huddles in Ohio State’s practice

Ohio State is expected to compete for the national championship in 2024. As you would expect, the training sessions are as intense as possible.

Some of those passionate plays were on display during fall camp for some of the Buckeyes, and head coach Ryan Day hopes that will be reflected on the field every Saturday this fall. However, it has also resulted in some moody moments that the Buckeyes’ boss condemns.

“It’s different when you get tired and you hit someone, get knocked out of the game or break your hand. That’s just total lack of discipline,” Day said after practice on Thursday. “It’s completely different when you play so hard that you’re shoving and shoving and nervous and playing until the final whistle. That’s what we want.

“Our guys don’t let anyone get them down. That attitude has to be there every day out there. And you have to follow through with it.”

With that mindset, Ohio State could very well win the Big Ten Championship and the College Football Playoff. The Buckeyes will be looking for their first title since the inaugural CFP in 2014 – a title this season would be a long time coming for the loyal Buckeye fans in Columbus.

Ryan Day and the Buckeyes have positioned themselves to be one of the best teams in the country this offseason in terms of recruiting and transfer portal success. Now it’s about backing all that up by being a top contender, if not the eventual champion, in 2024.

However, Day knows it starts in the offseason. He believes their intensity in fall camp will show on game day.

“Whatever we do in practice, we’re going to do in the game. So we may get penalties for undisciplined behavior, but at the same time, we’re going to go really, really hard in practice and push each other. I don’t think there’s a single player that’s going to back down. So what you’ve seen out there and in practice is what we’re looking for in terms of intensity.”

The Buckeyes will open the season on August 31 at Ohio Stadium against Akron before starting their Big Ten game against State of MichiganEncounters against the Oregon Ducks, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Penn State Nittany Lionsand of course bitter rival Michigan Loom too.
