COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State secured the commitment of four-star offensive lineman Jayvon McFadden on Saturday as the Buckeyes’ 2025 offensive line received some much-needed good news.
A week after losing five-star tackle David Sanders Jr., the Buckeyes have added McFadden to the group. While no one in the country or even in most recruiting cycles can replace Sanders one-for-one, signing McFadden is a necessary step for the future of Ohio State’s offensive line.
With McFadden choosing Ohio State over South Carolina, Colorado and Maryland, the Buckeyes now have three offensive players signed for the 2025 cycle. The 2025 class remains the highest-rated in the country.
Ohio State has two interior defenders in the class in McFadden and three-star recruit Jake Cook. Then there’s four-star tackle Carter Lowe, and it’s clear that the foundation for a solid class can form for Ohio State.
But that will have to be decided in the next few months as Ohio State looks to acquire talent currently under contract at other schools or offer talent it hasn’t yet offered. In particular, the Buckeyes could use another tackle in the class to pair with Lowe.
“I mean, keep track,” Frye said Thursday. “I mean, December is still a long way away and the weekend is coming up soon.”
In a broader sense, his signing (the 25th of the class) further rounds out a class that still has some holes to fill but is getting closer to being a more complete version. While more linemen are needed in the class, McFadden fills a hole there. But now the only “big” needs besides the line are adding a third running back and possibly another safety. From there, it’s about retention rather than recruiting.
Ohio State’s offensive line still has more moves to make, but signing the 6-foot-5, 295-pound interior lineman was certainly one of those moves.
