Indie app in the spotlight: Capture lets you effortlessly organize your fleeting thoughts

Welcome to Indie App Spotlight. This is a weekly 9to5Mac series where we highlight the latest apps from the world of indie apps. If you’re a developer and want your app featured, get in touch..

Capture is a productivity app that makes it easy to take notes, write down tasks, save links, and set reminders – all in one clean interface. The app fully supports iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro.

As someone who is constantly juggling between putting things in the calendar, writing them down in Apple Notes, or setting a reminder, I find this app pretty helpful. It aims to simplify things by giving you a central place to easily take notes whatever in an emergency.

Capture automatically detects the date, so if you type something like “Have lunch with Andy tomorrow,” it will automatically save it for that date/time. You can close the app and carry on with your day. The app supports iCloud Sync, so you can access your quick thoughts on all your Apple devices.

The app also lets you create lists so you can easily sort tasks by category. You can create a list for personal tasks, work tasks, or anything else. The app also includes widgets so you can quickly glance at upcoming tasks. You can also easily move tasks to another app like Calendar if that makes sense.

Another nice feature of Capture is the Share Sheet integration. If you use Safari, you can quickly share a link to Capture and it will be saved there. There’s also a Spotlight-like feature on macOS called Quick Capture that lets you set up a keyboard shortcut and instantly add a new thought to the app.

It’s a neat little app, although I wish it had full push notifications and not just badges. The developer says they plan to add support for Siri and Apple Intelligence, Apple Watch support, as well as audio recording in the future.

Capture is available on the App Store for iOS 17 and above for free with up to 20 captures, and the Pro tier is available for $5.99/year or $11.99 for life.
