In the board meeting of the Asansol Municipal Corporation (AMC), it was decided that all bad road patches and potholes in the city should be repaired before Durga Puja.
Amarnath Chatterjee, Chairman of the AMC, chaired the board meeting and was informed about the road repairs being carried out by the civic body.
Due to the persistent rains last month, the roads are in very poor condition, causing difficulties for the local people. Vehicle damage and accidents occur almost daily.
All councillors from the ruling party also demanded that the roads be repaired before the start of the Christmas season.
It was also decided that piped water connection to every household in the AMC area should be completed by April next year.
Due to flood-like situations, some water taps have been damaged in some areas; these will also be repaired soon.
It may be mentioned that due to the ongoing construction work of WBSEDCL to lay underground cables in Asansol city, a World Bank funded project, most of the roads are in poor condition and need urgent repair with concrete as the situation worsens during the monsoon season.
A percolation tunnel is being constructed at the pump houses of Asansol Municipal Corporation on the Damodar River in Kalajharia, Dihika, Bhutabari.
Municipal Mayor Bidhan Upadhyay, Deputy Mayors Wasimul Haque and Abhijit Ghatak and all ten ward chairmen and councillors were present at the meeting.
In addition, it was decided to regularly clean garbage dumps and stagnant water bodies in each of the 106 wards of the municipality to prevent further dengue outbreaks in the region.
