Swerve Strickland compares Kendrick Lamar vs. Drake to the AEW generational rivalry

Swerve Strickland sees the feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake in the world of hip-hop as comparable to a generational rivalry in the world of professional wrestling.

During an interview with CBS Sports’ Shakiel Mahjouri for SHAK Wrestling, the AEW World Champion compared the feud between Kendrick and Drake to that between Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay or Omega and Bryan Danielson.

It is a battle of the best of the previous era against the best of the current era.

“If I had to compare it in a wrestling sense, man, I think it would be like the feeling of Kenny (Omega) and Will Ospreay,” Strickland said. “If you had to compare those guys of that generation. It’s crazy to me, but I think the difference is just the difference in philosophy and what success is. That’s how I saw what Kendrick and Drake were.”

In his further remarks, Swerve mentioned that it might be more like an Omega and Danielson feel, comparing it to a previous generational rivalry between the best of two different eras.

“I feel like it’s like Kenny, and maybe not so much Will, but maybe more like Kenny and Bryan Danielson,” he said. “There are two different kinds of philosophies about what pro wrestling really is for this generation.”

AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland puts his title on the line against Bryan Danielson, who puts his legendary career on the line, in the main event of AEW All In 2024 on Sunday, August 25, at Wembley Stadium in London, England.
