LokmatTimes.com Impact: PMC begins road repairs in Kalyaninagar after pothole report

On August 23, LokamtTimes.com reported on the condition of the roads in Kalyaninagar and found that the interlocking pavers had come loose, posing only a minor hazard to commuters. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) swung into action following this news and has now started repairing the road near Silver Oak Society in Kalyaninagar.

The PMC has erected barricades at the vulnerable spots and will soon start the repair work. Kalyaninagar said that he had lodged several complaints with the PMC but they were closed without any solution. However, according to news from LokmatTimes.com, the civic authorities have started the repair work on the roads.

Monica S, a member of Team Swatch Kalyaninagar and a resident of Kalyaninagar, told LokmatTimes.com, “We welcome the PMC for starting the work in our area, but it is important to note that this is a reactive measure. We encourage the PMC to be more proactive in approaching such issues in future. We trust that the ongoing work will be completed efficiently. However, we request the PMC to critically examine whether the use of payment blocks is a suitable substitute for tarred roads. There are concerns that these blocks may not be sufficient as we have observed discomfort among the drivers who travel on them. We hope that this consideration is taken seriously.”

Sachin Agashe, a resident of Kalyaninagar, said, “We welcome PMC to start working, but as residents, we would really appreciate it if the district concerned could closely monitor whether online complaints are being closed without being fully resolved. It would be beneficial for all if the district concerned could visit our area within the next one to two months. This would enable better interaction with the residents and provide an opportunity to address existing or new issues more effectively. Such engagement would help ensure that all concerns are properly resolved and the quality of work is maintained.”

Yasmin Charania, another local resident, told LokmatTimes.com, “It is unfortunate that PMC responds only when the media is brought in. The government has created the PMC app through which the common citizen can raise the issues and get them resolved by the concerned department. However, this is not happening consistently at present. We hope that in future, media and reporters will not have to approach PMC with genuine issues and complaints will not be closed without any action on the ground to resolve these issues. Till now, they have cordoned off these parts of the road with loose pavers. We are waiting for the actual resolution and rectification of the issue.

Assistant Engineer Sachin Badge of Pune Municipal Corporation told LokmatTimes.com, “We have cordoned off the road to avoid accidents and repair work has started. The work will be completed in two days. The interlocking pavers will be replaced and new ones will be laid.”
