The latest update on the progress of Stranger ThingsThe fifth and final season of has received mixed reactions from fans.
The fourth season of Netflix’s hit science fiction series was released two years ago, and a final batch of episodes is currently in production.
This week, the streaming service announced that the upcoming Stranger Things Season five will premiere in 2025.
In a conference call on quarterly results this week, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos mentioned that next year’s program will include the new Stranger Thingstogether with a second season of the successful Addams Family adaptation Wednesday.
Stranger Things Featuring an ensemble cast including Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour and Winona Ryder, the film focuses on the paranormal events surrounding an American town in the 1980s.
Taking to social media, fans shared their reaction to the news of the release date, with some expressing their frustration at the long wait for a fifth season.
“Is there anyone left loyal to this show, it just took too long to come out LOL,” one person wrote.
“Imagine if it took nine years to get five seasons out,” complained another, while someone else simply asked, “Can anyone rush the hell out of this show?”
“I figured this would happen but still, damn,” wrote one fan.
Some have speculated that the long production time was due to the extensive special effects work required for the new season.
While the majority of stars from previous seasons of Stranger Things return for the new episodes, Eduardo Franco, who appeared as Argyle in season four, will not be among them.
The character, a pizza delivery man, was introduced as Jonathan’s (Charlie Heaton) best friend after the Byers family moved from Hawkins, Indiana, to California.
Although his character became a fan favorite everywhere Stranger ThingsFranco was missing from the cast photo for season four released earlier this year and confirmed in an interview that he would not return.
YouTube host Steve Varley asked Franco: “I just want to ask quickly because it’s on all of our minds. You don’t have to answer this, but fans panicked when they saw the cast photo from day one of the Stranger Things Season five.
“Now they think you’re out of season. Can you give us hope that you are? And can you say something if not?”
Franco replied, “It’s nice to hear that there’s some kind of concern or something, you know what I mean? But I never, I never got a call. So yeah, I think that’s it.”
An exact release date for the series has not yet been determined.
