M Knight Shyamalan goes in a “very dark” direction for his next film

M. Knight Shyamalan will take a “very dark” direction in his next film.

The legendary filmmaker, who directed “The Sixth Sense,” “Signs,” “Old,” and “Knock At The Cabin,” among others, returns later in 2024 with his new film “Trap,” starring Josh Hartnett.

The “Black Mirror” actor told IndieWire: “It’s a twist. But I try to give all my roles a twist. If you play the same thing over and over again, it gets boring for the audience.”

“Working with M. Night was one of the best experiences of my career. I think he is a true artist in the truest sense of the word.

“And I think people are going to be really surprised and excited by our film. It’s very bizarre, very dark and wild.”

Details of the plot – and Hartnett’s own role – are being kept top secret, as Shyamalan is known for the epic twists and turns of his films.

The film is scheduled to be released on August 2 by Warner Bros Pictures as part of a multi-year first-look deal with the studio.

As part of the partnership, Warner will also release his daughter Ishana Night Shyamalan’s directorial debut, “The Watchers,” which will be released in June.

In an earlier statement, studio heads Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy said: “Night is one of the most iconic and influential directors of his generation and an auteur in the truest sense of the word.

“From ‘The Sixth Sense’ to ‘Split’ to his latest horror film ‘Knock at the Cabin’, he is one of the few directors in contemporary cinema whose name alone promises a bold, singular vision, a captivating, original style of storytelling and a provocative, surprising and totally unique cinematic experience.

“We couldn’t be happier to welcome him to the Warner Bros. family and look forward to an exciting collaboration with Night and the entire Blinding Edge team.”
