Rapunzel in real life gets her first haircut

11-year-old student Aimee Chase has never had a haircut – but that will soon change.

Aimee will cut her luscious locks for the first time as she prepares for secondary school in September.

While the student’s hair is nowhere near as long as that of the fairy tale character Rapunzel, Aimee’s hair has grown to an extraordinary length of 1.18 m – and reaches down to her knees.

Aimee, who was known as “the girl with the long hair” at her primary school in Hampshire, will cut her hair by a whopping 60cm.

She said: “I’m going to secondary school and I want to do different things with my hair.

“It’s going to feel weird because I’ve had long hair for so long and now it’s going to be cut short.”

The cheerful teenager will donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust, an organization that provides wigs and hairpieces for children suffering from hair loss during their cancer treatment.

Aimee decided to donate her hair because she has friends in her family who have cancer.

She said: “With so much hair, I don’t want it to go to waste. I’m quite proud to give it to someone else who can use it.”

The family will hold a fundraising day at their home while getting her hair cut by her cousin Anushka Chase, a hairdresser, this weekend.

Donations are collected for Macmillan Cancer Support and leukaemia and lymphoma research.

Aimee’s mother Amanda said people often notice the unusual length of Aimee’s hair: “We walk down the street and get comments.

“I always think I get emotional when she scores everything. I’m proud of her for doing it, but also excited.”
