Artist Michelle Stitzlein receives scholarship from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation

BALTIMORE – Michelle Stitzlein, an artist based in central Ohio, recently received a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant for 2023-2024.

Of the 97 internationally honored artists, Baltimore’s Stitzlein was the only Ohio artist to be recognized this calendar year. Previous Ohio honorees include Christopher Burk (2018) and Aminah Robinson (1997). In support of Lee Krasner’s mission to promote the work of visual artists, the Pollock-Krasner Foundation is honored to support the growing list of nearly 5,000 #PKFGrantees who have received $85 million to date in 79 countries.

Stitzlein’s work, made from repurposed materials collected primarily from central Ohio residents and likely diverted from the county’s landfills, is on display locally in the collections of COSI (Center of Science and Industry), the Brukner Nature Center, and the Dayton Metro-Main and Dayton Metro-Huber Heights libraries. Recent exhibitions include shows at the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden and the Mansfield Art Center.

She is the recipient of two Individual Excellence Awards from the Ohio Arts Council and an Individual Grant from the Greater Columbus Arts Council, and is a graduate of Columbus College of Art & Design. Her residencies include the Headlands Center for the Arts in San Francisco and Shenandoah and Denali National Parks. She was born and raised in Coshocton, Ohio. Her home and studio are now in a former mansion in Baltimore, Ohio, and she shares it with her husband, Nathaniel, and their three cats.
