Newbridge Road could finally open in nine months.
The B5605 in Newbridge in the County Borough of Wrexham was closed in January 2021 after a large section of the road collapsed down an embankment during Storm Christoph.
Since then, there have been significant delays in repair work, causing frustration for motorists using the busy route between Cefn Mawr and Chirk, which also serves as a diversion from the A483 bypass.
The Welsh Government provided Wrexham Council with £2.8 million in funding in May 2022 to cover the cost of repairs.
Now local councillor Terry Evans said in a semi-private update: “I and the officers visited the Newbridge site to assess the situation.
“Yes, the work is going very well. The wall has now been removed. They are currently building a temporary road to the riverbed so that the heavy machinery can arrive in the first two weeks of September. Then they can start driving the piles.
“I have asked the company and the council to keep the public regularly informed of progress and I will monitor the situation closely.”
The first expected end date of the saga was also made public: Councillor Evans said “End date next May, weather permitting” – accompanied by a crossed-fingers emoji.
