Australian worker’s revelation after earning six-figure salary for the first time: ‘I never thought it’

A young Australian woman who just landed a six-figure job speaks openly about the enormous impact the change has had on her life.

In June, Melbourne-based Olivia landed a new job creating content for schools and running financial literacy workshops for high school students.

It comes with great benefits, including flexible working hours and a full eight weeks of vacation.

The role also comes with a salary of $120,000, which is $50,000 more than her previous position.

The 30-year-old, who has a large online following and uses it to educate other young people online about money and investing, recently spoke about her new job on her TikTok page “Her Money’s Worth.”

“I’m making more money than ever before,” she said.

“The work is good, but not stressful. It’s challenging, fun and involves finances.”

“I love it and wonder if everyone else out there feels the same and I never believed it could be this good.”

Olivia’s question immediately struck a chord with people online, and they agreed that having a job that you enjoy while also earning a good salary has a huge impact on your daily life.

“Welcome to the club! People don’t believe me when I say I really love my job and that it pays well,” one person wrote.

“It’s crazy how many people I meet who don’t like their job! Work-life balance is the most important thing in my opinion,” said another

One added that they “feel the same way,” pointing out that six months ago they were “unhappy” and had “the worst job ever.”

Speaking to news.com.au, Olivia revealed that in her previous marketing position she earned $70,000 and worked a four-day week.

Previously, she also worked as a teacher.

Olivia already has plans for how she will use her new six-figure income.

“It will make a huge difference to my life as I will now be able to put much more aside to invest regularly and start saving for my second property,” she said.

Not only does she enjoy her new job, it also fits perfectly with her passion for teaching young people how to better manage their money.

Olivia is one of the few Australian financial content writers licensed to provide general financial advice.

“Followers who have been with me since the beginning of my online journey know my professional history and how I tried to pursue a different career path after being unhappy with teaching,” said the 30-year-old.

“When I said I never thought it could be this good, I meant that I was actually surprised to find a job that fits my mission, has great benefits and offers me a good work-life balance. I think that’s exactly what a lot of people are looking for.”

Last year, Australians revealed exactly how much money they would have to earn to consider themselves “rich.”

More than 50,000 people took part in news.com.au’s 2023 Great Aussie Debate survey. One of the questions was what salary you would need to earn to be considered rich in Australia in 2023.

It turns out that this amount is over $250,000 – or an average of $303,000.

More than 55 percent of respondents chose this option, with 19.6 percent reporting income between $200,000 and $250,000 and 15.9 percent reporting income between $150,000 and $200,000.

According to Australian Bureau of Statistics figures for May 2024, the average full-time wage is currently $1,923.40 per week, which equates to about $100,000 per year before tax.
