Cleveland has a big problem.

Like the rest of the NFL, the Browns face a deadline to trim their 90-man roster to 53 on Tuesday, and the team has had at least one too many quarterbacks on its roster in the last 48 hours.

With either new addition Tyler Huntley or last year’s draft pick Dorian Thompson-Robinson at risk of being released on Tuesday, the Browns may instead opt to look for a trade partner to complement or improve their draft picks in 2024.

Here are three teams that need a better backup quarterback.

Detroit Lions

Jared Goff has been healthy for most of his time with the Detroit Lions, especially the last two seasons.

However, if Goff were to be out, the team would turn to Hendon Hooker, an unproven second-year quarterback.

The Lions are aiming for the Super Bowl and it would be worthwhile to offer a late-round draft pick to ensure the team has a better replacement.

Miami Dolphins

Although Tua Tagovailoa is the undisputed starter in one of the NFL’s most exciting offenses, who would the Dolphins turn to if he were injured?

Mike White or Skylar Thompson.

Oops!

Miami is looking to make the playoffs for the third year in a row, and having a better backup player would be worth giving up a draft pick.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Listen, Tampa Bay has at least some experience winning with former Browns quarterbacks, so why not add another one?

Baker Mayfield is known for his ability to persevere even when injured.

But a player like Huntley or Thompson-Robinson would help the Buccaneers continue to move the football better than Kyle Trash or John Wolford, as neither quarterback has had consistent success against first-team defenses in the NFL.
