1. Pixel Watch 3 wishlist: multiple sizes
Google is the only major smartwatch manufacturer that does not offer devices in multiple sizes. Apple Watch Series 9 comes in 41mm and 45mm, the latest Galaxy Watch is available in 40mm and 44mm and the popular Garmin Forerunner 265 comes in a standard 46mm and a smaller 42mm version (265s). Meanwhile, there is the OG Pixel Watch and newer PixelWatch 2 are stubbornly only available in 41 mm.
This is likely to change with the launch of the Google Pixel Watch 3, if recent rumors and a leaked video of the products are to be believed. We will probably complement the 41mm version with a larger 45mm edition with similar specifications, apart from a larger screen and battery.
The lack of size options has long been one of our Biggest complaints about the Pixel Watch series. Before you get too excited, however, you should know that rumors suggest that the lLarger Pixel Watch 3 could start at $489 for the Bluetooth-only model and just under $600 for the LTE version. This would make the new Pixel Watch significantly more expensive than its 45mm counterpart, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7, which starts at $329 for Bluetooth and goes up to $379 for LTE.
2. Wish list for the Pixel Watch 3: Improved battery life
I would have liked it to last 36 hours in standard operating mode with the always-on display enabled. I would also like to see an improvement in battery life when tracking outdoor workouts with GPS.
Poor battery life is a problem that affects almost all full-featured smartwatches, with the exception of the Galaxy Watch Active2that can easily hum for 48 hours.
The original Pixel Watch barely manages 24 hours of battery lifeeven with the always-on display turned off, but the Pixel Watch 2 can comfortably last 24 hours. That’s not too bad, but there’s room for improvement.
For the Pixel Watch 3, I would have liked it to last 36 hours in standard operating mode with the always-on display enabled. I would also like to see an improvement in battery life when tracking outdoor workouts with GPS enabled. Currently, the Pixel Watch 2’s battery drains at a rate of about 10% per hour when using GPS.
Latest Operating system Wear OS 5 – which the Pixel Watch 3 will almost certainly launch with – is said to be up to 20% more power efficient, especially when tracking walks, runs, hikes, bike rides, etc., which is encouraging.
However, rumors suggest that the battery size of the 41mm model will remain the same at 310mAh, meaning the larger model could be my best hope for a significant improvement in longevity, thanks to a battery with a possible capacity of 420mAh.
3. Wish list for the Pixel Watch 3: a brighter screen
The Pixel Watch 2’s screen has a high resolution and good saturation, but it’s not particularly bright. At a maximum output of 1,000 nits, reading the watch face in direct sunlight can be tiring, especially if you’re wearing sunglasses.
For this reason, increasing the display brightness is pretty high on my wish list for the Pixel Watch 3. Doubling the maximum output to 2,000 nits would put the Pixel Watch 3 on par with other popular smartwatches, especially the Galaxy Watch 7, which I can easily view in daylight.
However, increasing the brightness to 3,000 nits would put the Pixel Watch 3 on par with flagship models like the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Galaxy Watch Ultra.
4. Pixel Watch 3 wishlist: better Google Home integration
Google makes a lot of consumer tech products, from earbuds (Pixel Buds) to home security systems (Nest); streaming platforms (Chromecast) to smoke detectors (also Nest). Yes, the Pixel Watch 2 is well integrated into Google’s larger ecosystem. You can use Google Assistant from your wrist to do things like turn off the lights or adjust the thermostat.
With the Pixel Watch 3, I would like to see this range of functions expanded even further, for example to be able to use the device to change channels on my Google TV or check the feed of my Nest security camera from my wrist.
5. Wish list for the Pixel Watch 3: A narrower bezel
And last but not least Google must Give the Pixel Watch 3 a narrower bezel or risk launching a product with an outdated design. Aesthetically, essentially nothing has changed between the Pixel Watch 2022 and the Pixel Watch 2 2023, including the chunky 5.5mm bezel that surrounds the screen.
Fortunately, numerous rumors and leaks indicate that a Reducing the aperture size is planned for the new device. However, I’m not convinced that reducing the bezel size by a measly millimeter will be enough to give the Pixel Watch 3 a more modern feel.
