India is preparing to send a high-level delegation to the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok from September 3 to 6, with the aim of strengthening its presence in the resource-rich Far Eastern region.

The visit reflects India’s strategic interest in expanding maritime transport corridors and strengthening trade and investment ties with Russia. A Cabinet minister is expected to lead the delegation, focusing on developing key infrastructure and trade routes. Here are the key points:

1. The Modi government plans to send a Cabinet Minister to lead the delegation to the EEF, underlining the importance of the forum for India’s strategic interests.

2. One of the main objectives is to advance talks on the Vladivostok-Chennai Eastern Sea Corridor, which will link India with the resource-rich Arctic region.

3. India and Russia recently signed agreements to promote trade, investment and shipbuilding projects, further strengthening their bilateral relations.

4. The visit will focus on enhancing cooperation in the Far East and the Arctic, as agreed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin during their summit in July.

5. India plans to improve infrastructure in Chennai to handle the increased trade volume and facilitate the functioning of the Eastern Maritime Corridor.
