August 31 is World Overdose Awareness Day, but today Spectrum and Human Services are hosting their fourth annual “Not another one: Together against overdose” Event.

The free memorial and information evening will take place today between 5 and 8 p.m. in the Veterans Memorial Park in West Seneca behind City Hall.
Representatives from 13 local agencies will participate in the event and provide educational materials. Representatives will come from the Erie County Health Department’s Harm Reduction Team, Crisis Services, Spectrum Health’s Buffalo HOPE COMPHS, Endeavor Health Services, BestSelf, Save the Michaels of the World, Inc., Horizon Health Services, VA WNY Healthcare Services, and Narcotics Anonymous.

The event also features free live music from The Kensingtons who will perform on the Lions Club bandshell, and there will be numerous activities for children and families.

These family activities include the Imagination Playground from Explore & More – The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Children’s Museum, the Y on the Fly from the YMCA Buffalo Niagara, and the Healthy Cruiser from Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of WNY.
The event will also feature a specially made “We Remember Them” banner designed by Kristina Moore, a nurse at Spectrum Health. The banner will hang in the atrium of the Town of West Seneca Community Center on select days, and people are asked to bring photos of loved ones who have died from an overdose to be added to the banner.
