Cadillac Optiq 2025 starts at a pricey $52,895 but should get the full electric vehicle tax credit

  • Although the Optiq is more expensive than a Model Y Performance, it looks higher quality and is better equipped.
  • All versions of the electric SUV use an 85 kWh battery with two electric motors.
  • Cadillac will soon phase out the base model Lyriq, widening the gap between it and the Optiq.

Pricing for the 2025 Cadillac Optiq starts at $52,895 in the U.S., plus a $1,495 delivery fee, making it slightly more expensive than the Tesla Model Y Performance and only a few thousand dollars cheaper than the larger Cadillac Lyriq.

Current order data shows that the Optiq range starts with the entry-level Luxury 1SC, while those willing to spend a little more can get the 1SE trim starting at $55,095 or the black 1SF and Sport 1SH versions for $53,495 and $55,595 respectively.

Interestingly, unlike many other electric vehicles sold in the U.S., only a single powertrain option is offered across the entire range. This consists of an 85 kWh battery pack and two electric motors that produce a combined 300 horsepower and 479 Nm of torque. Cadillac says the Optiq has a range of about 300 miles on a single charge, and that it can be extended by 79 miles in 10 minutes on a DC fast charger.

Cars Direct points out that the 2025 Optiq is currently $4,300 cheaper than the cheapest Lyriq. However, Cadillac will drop the entry-level Lyriq for the 2025 model year, effectively increasing the price by around $4,100 since the Luxury trim is now the cheapest option. The 2024 Lyriq Luxury starts at $61,295.

In addition, buyers will probably be pleased to know that GM believes the Optiq will qualify for the full $7,500 federal electric vehicle tax credit.

The Optiq’s most obvious competitor is the Tesla Model Y. The Tesla range starts at $44,990 for the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive, goes up to $47,990 for the Long Range All-Wheel Drive, and tops out at $51,490 for the Performance All-Wheel Drive. All versions are eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. Although the Tesla beats the Cadillac on price and performance, the Optiq’s cabin looks more premium and is much better equipped than the Model Y, with features like a 33-inch curved display and a 19-speaker AKG audio system.
