Cabin rentals offer cheap weekend getaways | The Tribune

The smell of freshly caught lake trout sizzling on a coal-fired cannon stove in the soft glow of a kerosene lamp is, for some people, the ultimate cabin lifestyle.

And why not?

Cabins evoke images of early America, when pioneers headed west through the treacherous wilderness in search of the promised land. Cabins offer rustic charm and a connection to the great outdoors, making them the ideal choice if you want to experience America’s rugged, amenity-free lifestyle. Or do you?

OK, so maybe the convenience-free lifestyle isn’t for everyone, especially those who crave Wi-Fi and power outlets for their laptops and especially CD players. Who can survive a weekend in a cabin without Taylor Swift blaring from a portable CD player? Unthinkable! So much for harsh America. Sigh!

Cabin rentals are becoming increasingly popular as they provide the perfect getaway and are often located near lush hiking trails, rushing waterfalls, snow-covered ski slopes, and there are plenty of scenic (and photogenic) views.

Stephenie Nelson, property manager at Palmer Lake Lodges, believes cabins have become more popular since the onset of COVID-19.

“Renting a cabin offers a whole new atmosphere for people who come to swim, have a family picnic or just get away from it all,” Nelson said.

According to online vacation rental marketplace Vrbo, demand for cabin rentals has increased 25% in the past year. Some believe demand for bed and breakfast cabins is expected to increase as travel restrictions ease and people seek secluded retreats.

That’s why Palmer Lake offers some of the best cabin rentals anywhere, with modern amenities from hot tubs and swimming pools to game rooms, gourmet kitchens and Wi-Fi.

Another reason cabin rentals are cool is that families can cook meals together (think knot dogs and root beer) or play board games by the fireplace. And who doesn’t love a fireplace?

Nelson says many rental properties are privately owned, so when renters book a cabin through Orbitz, they can escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and relax among trees, rushing water and stunning mountain views—perfect for reliving old memories and creating new ones.

Cabin types

Some people prefer a luxurious cabin with modern amenities for their vacation, while others opt for a rustic cabin in the woods or near a lake. With a wide selection of around 200 cabins, the perfect vacation is just a click away.

Renters can sort their results by price to find the cheapest options and use the budget filter, map, and reviews to compare cabins. Pets

Yes, pets are welcome at many of these rentals. After all, everyone loves pets, right? Imagine taking Rover for a nature walk and then snuggling up next to a crackling fire, licking old logs as twinkling stars dot a colorless night sky. Ah, puppy love. Click the pet-friendly filter for Palmer Lake cabin rentals so the family dog can enjoy one heck of a vacation, too.

Whirlpools and swimming pools

Are problems at work weighing on your mind? If so, you could relax in an outdoor hot tub in a secluded cabin or let the little ones splash around in an indoor pool. Are these pools suitable for diving? It’s deep. (Sorry.) What is certain, though, is that you can easily find what you’re looking for using the amenities filters.

Price

Some cabins range from as little as $92 (cool price) per night to over $400 (less cool, but not bad) and more. Of course, prices and availability are subject to change and additional terms and conditions may apply.

Want more? According to Vrbo, Palmer Lake has plenty of vacation rentals for weekend getaways.

For a mere $131 per night, you can rent a renovated historic cottage with two bedrooms that sleeps six and one bathroom. Reminiscent of an early American colonial home, this stone cottage is an even greater experience for history buffs. By the way, the Palmer Lake Regional Recreation Area is about a 5-minute walk away.

There’s also a house on Mountain Lake near the U.S. Air Force Academy. For $140 a night, this 2,200-square-foot rental has two bathrooms and three bedrooms that sleep seven.

Check out a pristine modern bungalow at the base of the National Forest for $143 per night. It has one bathroom and one bedroom that sleeps three.

For $165, you can get a cozy 800-square-foot mountain cottage with two bathrooms and three bedrooms. Biking, lake activities and restaurants are just steps away. A photo on the website shows a doe and her best friends feeding their fawn around a picnic table. (Yes, the cabin puns are a bit wooden.) “Rent is increasing, so I think cabins will be more popular in the next five years,” Nelson said.

Palmer Lake is indeed a great place to visit notable attractions, all within 30 minutes of the city center, including Pikes Peak (20.6 miles), Garden of the Gods (17.1 miles), Cave of the Winds (17.2 miles), Manitou Incline (18.3 miles), Red Rock Canyon Open Space (18.6 miles), and Monument Valley Park (19.7 miles).

Palmer Lake is a charming town with beautiful scenic scenery, plenty of recreational activities, and proximity to Colorado Springs, making it a great destination for anyone looking for a weekend getaway. Renters would be disappointed if they looked anywhere else.
