Delta hinted a few months ago that “something was coming”… and then things went haywire for a while. Now the promotion is finally here, and Delta’s Beyond the Summer event offers discounted award redemptions for flights to Europe, Asia, Oceania, and more.
This new Delta promotion allows you to redeem SkyMiles cheaply at a variety of locations, and the deals get even better if you have a Delta credit card. Here’s everything you need to know – including the fact that you must book soon.
Delta’s “Beyond the Summer” Event – The Details
First things first: Book these offers until August 29, 2024. That doesn’t leave you much time to find a deal, make plans, and then book your tickets.
Please also note the valid travel dates:
- Asia and South Pacific
- Japan: October 2, 2024 to March 15, 2025
- China: October 2 to November 30, 2024
- Australia and New Zealand: 2 October 2024 to 28 February 2025
- French Polynesia, Taiwan and South Korea: 29 October 2024 to 28 February 2025
- Europe: 1 November 2024 to 8 March 2025
And if you were disappointed by Delta One Business Class awards priced at over 300,000 miles per person, you will be pleased to know that the Current offers range from Basic Economy to Delta One.
On the offers page, you can sort by departure airport, fare class and destination region (or leave this field blank to see all offers). And, Discounts are available on both cash fares and SkyMiles awards.
These offers get even better if you have a Delta co-branded credit cardHowever, apart from the Delta SkyMiles® With the Blue American Express Card, which does not offer this benefit, Delta Amex cardholders can enjoy a 15% discount when booking award tickets on Delta-operated flights.
Delta, for example, offers flights between Los Angeles and Tokyo for 40,000 miles round-trip in economy class per person. However, as a cardholder, this trip is available for 34,000 SkyMiles – and that’s the round trip!
If you’d rather head to Europe, we’ve seen fares under 30,000 SkyMiles for round-trip flights from Boston and New York City to several destinations across the continent, but keep in mind that these prices reflect the 15% discount available with eligible Delta co-branded cards.
Unfortunately, the filters on the promotions page do not allow you to select Delta One Business Class as a search option. However, there are Business Class deals available, you just have to search for them.
For example, with the cardholder discount, you can fly from Seattle to Taiwan for 83,300 miles (one way).
For 119,000 miles per person, you could book a one-way flight from New York City to Milan (MXP).
There are also numerous domestic offers, such as from Seattle (SEA) to San Diego (SAN) for 2,100 miles per person in Basic Economy or 4,200 miles per person in Regular Economy (Main Cabin).
But remember, there are cash offers available during this sale, too. You could book the same flight for just $49.
Final thoughts
Delta’s latest promotion has been delayed, but it may have been worth the wait. There are some incredible deals on domestic flights and good deals on international awards too. While it’s a shame you can’t filter for Delta One awards in this sale, the deals are out there if you make the effort to find them.
