According to Weld County, Milliken residents with limited mobility and few transportation alternatives can access rideshare paratransit services through Via Mobility.
The ride-sharing service supports people aged 60 and over who cannot drive themselves to get to appointments, go shopping or go to work.
“Via Mobility is a fantastic paratransit service for the residents of Weld County,” said Kevin Ross, commission chairman. “It has helped residents maintain the level of independence they desire, and adding Milliken to the service area will only further that goal.”
The Weld County Board of County Commissioners has approved an intergovernmental agreement to expand services to Milliken, the 10th Weld County municipality to join the program. Via Mobility has been providing on-demand paratransit services in other parts of Weld County for a year.
Weld County approved a contract with Via Mobility for the Multimodal Transportation and Mitigation Options Fund in July 2023.
According to official information, Via Mobility’s buses are equipped to transport people and drivers provide people with personalized service to and from their doorstep, such as their home or location, and help them get on and off.
Under the intergovernmental agreement, Milliken will contribute $13,455.69 to the program, which also serves the communities of Ault, Fort Lupton, Gilcrest, Hudson, Johnstown, Keenesburg, Kersey, Nunn, Platteville and residents of a large portion of unincorporated Weld County.
“This transportation option will allow residents to easily plan important and vital trips and become more involved in the community,” said Elizabeth Relford, Weld County’s interim director of planning services. “We are excited to expand this service to Milliken.”
According to official information, Via Mobility Services is a non-profit organization funded by donations, grants and service contracts to finance users’ free rides. Passengers never have to pay or donate.
